Tree of Life with Reindeer Pysanka Ornament customizable with name and year
$53.00
Handmade batik pysanka with tree of life and reindeer. Very popular as a hanging holiday ornament. White chicken eggshell, emptied and varnished.
Reindeer are a symbol for wealth and prosperity. The tree of life, or vazon, motif is said to represent the universe as it unites the three worlds of the
underworld the earthly realm, and the heavens/sky, and is a very common motif in art. Blue represents wishes for good health derived from life-giving air.
The design is the same on the front and back. Optionally, the back can be customized with your family name, year, or other text.
The design is made using a batik, or wax-resist, process: beeswax is melted in the flame of a candle and applied to the egg with a tool called a kistka. The egg is dipped into successively darker dyes, with beeswax applied at each stage. At the end of the process the beeswax is melted off to reveal the finished design, and the egg is varnished, emptied, rinsed and dried.
This item is made to order and may take up to 2–4 weeks for fulfillment.
